HM Revenue and Customs has signed to occupy 1 Ruskin Square, the first office building of the scheme to be completed. The landmark letting of the entire building sees the government department take 180,000 sq ft of prime office accommodation at the heart of a fast evolving business hub in south London. Designed by award-winning architecture firm shedkm, 1 Ruskin Square comprises nine floors of offices on floorplates of approximately 20,000 sq ft.

The second phase of offices at Ruskin Square is now fully let to the Home Office. 2RS is now under construction and will complete in 2023.

Tenant — Building OneAugust 2017

HMRC chief executive Jon Thompson said moving into the state-of-the-art, building one at Ruskin Square was an important step for the agency to become a ‘digitally-advanced’ tax authority. HMRC plan to increase effectiveness in providing modern customer services by bringing various teams across HMRC together and investing in skills, career development, sophisticated IT and data analytics. The beginning of a process that will make HMRC an important contributor to the economy and to communities in and around Croydon.

Staff moving to Ruskin Square will include specialist teams working on debt management, fraud and criminal investigations and tax compliance. HMRC already has around 600 staff based in Croydon who will move to the new building.
